On 10 July 2018, a MOU for the cremation ground toilets block renovation, expansion and provision of hand washing and bathing facilities was signed between Municipal Council Chandigarh and four partners (three corporate entities and Chandigarh Rotary Club Service Trust).
The partners providing funds are: PRIP RK Saboo, Rtn Jagesh Khaitan and Rtn PJ Singh through their companies/trusts, and RC Chandigarh through its Trust.
The project cost is Rs 40 lacs which will be contributed equally by the partners.
This project was initiated by PRIP Saboo on a request and a suggestion by the advisor, UT Chandigarh, and on a further request by the Commissioner MC. It is a first of its kind project where the total cost is being met by CSR and NGO funds. While providing better facilities to people who join in the last journey of those who leave this world, it will be an example of how partnership between the government and the governed can create meaningful infrastructure in the city.
